You Have the Right to Live Where You Choose

Fair Housing is not just a right, it's the law.

Everyone has the right to live in the neighborhood of his or her choice. Specifically, Housing Choice is defined within the law as "the ability of persons regardless of race, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, of similar income levels to have available to them the same housing choices.

How can housing choices be restricted?

Housing choices are said to be restricted when actions, ommissions or decisions are taken to impede choice or when choice is eliminated by making certain residential dwellings unavailable to persons because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.

What can I do if I suspect I have suffered discrimination?

The worst thing to do is nothing! Contact the Housing Consortium right away. Within several days, you will receive a complaint form from the Consortium. Fill it out completely and return it to the Consortium office. Your complaint will be researched and forwarded to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.

The Seneca-Tiffin Fair Housing Consortium is a citizen housing complaint referral service made possible by a grant from the Ohio Department of Development. The Consortium sponsors fair housing seminars, a toll-free complaint hot line and printed materials designed to educate the public on the identification and prevention of discrimination in housing choice.

The Consortium does not provide legal advise, nor does it advocate on behalf of citizen's with complaints. The Consortium refers housing discrimination complaints to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission for investigation.

To obtain a fair housing complaint form, please call the Consortium TOLL FREE at 1-800-941-4558.
